Vitamins and health
1. Introduction. What are vitamins?

Vitamins are known to us for over 100 years. They have written and said quite a lot. But what are vitamins? What are they different from other biologically active substances? Once upon a time there were more than two dozen, but now vitamins include all 13 compounds. At the same time, there are the so-called "vitaminopodobnye substance." What are they different from the vitamins? Let's start with the definition of "vitamins."

Vitamins - essential organic substances necessary to sustain the vital functions of the organism involved in the regulation of biochemical and physiological processes, biomolecules with a predominantly regulatory functions entering the body with food, "" indispensable (essential) food substances which do not occur in formed in the body or not enough. "

Definately an important article! Thanks. Lead is very misunderstood and underestimated in terms of the damage it can cause.

I wanted to add a couple of things to what you've said - first, that it only takes the equivalent amount of lead to 3 granules of table sugar
to permanently damage an unborn child's brain. That really puts these absurd notions of "allowable limits" in an appropriate light.

Second, I wanted to make the point the blood lead levels cannot measure a person's level of lead - it is limited to telling you if their has been very recent / ongoing exposure evidenced by the fact that the lead is still in the blood stream. A digital x-ray of the leg bone will better show the accumulations of lead - known as "lead lines"; you can actually see the lead in the x-ray image.
Another way to test for lead is by sending a hair sample to a lab.
There is no way, however, to assess how much lead is stored in tissue in the body.

As with children's vitamins, women need to research their calcium supplements which also frequently contain lead.

For readers who want a comprehensive inventory of where lead is frequently found, and what specific damage lead does to the brain, they may want to track down a copy of my book, LEAD BABIES. Its very readable, and the process for lead-proofing one's home, very do-able. Its worth a trip to the library for, as readers report they were empowered to take action, not paralyzed by fear.

Again, many thanks for bringing this forward.

Best regards,
Dr. Sandra Cottingham
